New Learning Pathway on the One Ocean Learn Platform
Together with UNITAR our international, interdisciplinary group of leading experts in the ocean governance have carefully crafted new learning pathways
Gender and the ocean
Gender plays a crucial role in understanding and addressing the complex relationship between humanity and the ocean. Our learning pathway on gender and ocean, developed by Sarh Cummings (UNITAR) and Aphiwe Moshani (One Ocean Hub, University of Cape Town) captures this complex and important interlinkage, an often overlooked – yet essential – aspect of environmental sustainability. From addressing climate change vulnerabilities to harnessing women’s contributions in ocean-related sectors, it delves into the critical roles gender plays in the context of the ocean. Learn more about the significance of gender-transformative actions, the challenges faced by women, and the initiatives aimed at safeguarding their rights and enhancing their participation for a healthier ocean and more equitable ocean conservation and sustainable use from examples covering Ghana, Namibia, and South Africa.
